Pic shows: This is the microlight aircraft built by Yang Shijun in honour of his pilot father. A flying enthusiast built a one seater microlight aircraft in honour of his pilot father. Proud Yang Shijun, 45, made 10 successfull take off and landings and reached a height of 200 metres after completing the project. He made his pride and joy in Changchun City, capital of Jilin Province, north-east China and named the plane Jinhai One after his dad who died in 2011. Shijun, clocked 2.5 hours of flight time in his plane, which he designed and built with materials imported from abroad, costing 10,000 GBP over the past four years. Shijun said: "The plane was built in honour and to commemorate my father. It is also a sort of spiritual inheritance by using his name. I want to make him proud with everything that I do and accomplish." "Lots of people think people who make planes are crazy, but that’s not the case. I’ve made my plane according to real industrial standards, with good quality. It’s also very safe." Jinhai One has a 10 metre wingspan and weighs just 110 kg, making it capable of speeds of up to 74 mph (120 kph). The inspiration behind building planes came from Shijun’s father, who was a pilot with the Chinese air force for 29 years. Shijun said he plans to built three more two-seater planes in the future and is currently working on the designs with his friend. (ends)
